Naturopathic Medicine and Integrative Oncology:
"Managing Side Effects of Chemotherapy

This is a two CME hour course that will review pharmacology of chemotherapy agents, including common side effects, and discuss naturopathic co-management of chemotherapy side effects. Drug-herb-nutrient interactions will be discussed, as well as patient cases.

Learning Objectives:
  • Describe the principles of Naturopathic Co-management of oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy
  • Understand pharmacology of common chemotherapy agent including indications and side effects
  • Recognize potential herb-drug-nutrient Interactions with chemotherapy
  • Discuss the guidelines to prevent interactions
  • Identify naturopathic therapies to help manage chemotherapy side effects
2 hours CE (1 General, 1 Pharm approved)

This month's speaker:

Shauna Birdsall, ND, FABNO

Dr. Shauna Birdsall graduated from National College of Naturopathic Medicine (Portland, OR) in 2000, and completed a residency in Naturopathic Medicine and Oncology at Cancer Treatment Centers of America’s Midwestern Regional Medical Center in 2002. She worked at Midwestern after residency and then opened Western Regional Medical Center as Director of Naturopathic Medicine in December of 2008. She is also a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology. Dr. Birdsall practices in an innovative, team-based, holistic comprehensive cancer care center. She is strongly committed to providing individualized, compassionate, scientifically-based care to empower and provide hope to cancer patients.
