Whether it's a woman presenting to your office with symptoms of menopause, an aging male experiencing symptoms of hormonal decline or a young woman seeking your expertise for addressing polycystic ovarian syndrome; supporting individuals suffering from hormonal imbalance is common practice. Successful treatment outcomes hinge on a firm understanding of the etiologies and contributing factors of hormone imbalance as well as adjunctive concepts and concerns surrounding imbalance. Join us as we take a clinical approach to hormone imbalance, delving into common hormonal presentations, key concepts pertaining to them, treatment considerations and case studies.
Topics to include:
- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: Diagnostic criteria will be covered as will the connection between PCOS, insulin resistance, anovulation, infertility and elevated androgen levels in addition to the use of oral contraceptives as "treatment."
- Menopause: A brief review of hormonal changes associated with menopause will be discussed to successfully dispel menopausal myths, differentiate estrogens, and address menopausal metabolism, cognitive function and libido changes.
- Andropause: Re-examine the hormonal changes of the aging male with focus on the relationship between testosterone and metabolic syndrome/insulin resistance and hormonal effect on prostrate health.

Sara Wood, ND
Dr. Wood grew up in Colorado and received her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the Colorado College. After completing her doctorate at NCNM, she established a practice at Beaverton Naturopathic Medicine with Drs. Peabody and Meletis, where she focuses on endocrine imbalance, digestive dysfunction, immune and allergy support, and cardiovascular health.
Since 2008, Dr. Wood has also worked as the staff physician at Labrix Clinical Services, where she has reviewed over 20,000 salivary hormone test results.
Along with Dr. Meletis, she co-authored His Change of Life - Male Menopause and Healthy Aging with Testosterone, and has lectured extensively at community and physician conferences.
Robyn Kutka, ND
Dr. Kutka is a naturopathic physician with a degree from the
National College of Natural Medicine in Portland,Oregon. Dr. Kutka is a staff physician at Labrix
Clinical Services, Inc. and also maintains a private practice in Lake
Oswego, Oregon where she has developed a niche
practice working with women of all ages to address their sexual health
concerns. She has spent the last decade
educating women ages 18 - 80+ on the topics of sexual health and romance enhancement
in their relationships and continues to advance her knowledge in the field,
maintaining a membership with the International Society for the Study of
Women’s Sexual Health. A mother of 2
