Resistance is Futile: The Future of Antibiotics Development (2 Rx)
Satya Ambrose, ND, LAc

Dr. Ambrose is a noted educator at both the Natural University of Natural Medicine (NUNM) and the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM). She is one of few NDs who has worked extensively with international scientists and clinicians studying bacteriophages as an alternative to antibiotics.

Dr. Jennifer Means served as NCNM’s clinic supervisor from 1997-2003 and has taught Pathology and Homeopathy in various locations for over a decade. Her clinical expertise is in treating debilitating chronic illnesses such as Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, mold related illness, seizure disorders and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Session B: HPV & STI Update (2 Rx)

Updated diagnostic and treatment protocols for HPV and other STIs are examined.

Sunday Afternoon Ethics Concurrent Sessions

Session C: Ethical Perspectives for Preventing or Surviving a Board Investigation (2 Ethics)
Alena Guggenheim, ND & Adina Matasuru, JD

Dr. Guggenheim teaches Rheumatology, Integrative Modalities and other courses at NCNM. Her research has focused on immune modulation by mushrooms and she currently sees patients at ZOOM+ with an emphasis on rheumatological diseases.

Ms. Matasaru has over a decade of professional malpractice defense experience, including medical, chiropractic, naturopathic, legal, directors and officers, and financial fiduciaries. She frequently serves as a court appointed arbitrator and represents professionals in administrative hearings before the licensing boards.

Session D: Ethics Conundrums: Antibiotic Prescribing and Genetic Testing (2 Ethics)
Nancy Scarlett, ND

Dr. Scarlett is an associate professor at NCNM where she teaches Naturopathic Medical Ethics and Bioethics. She received training in bioethics during a graduate fellowship at the University of Tennessee. She is passionate about advancing medical ethics for both practitioners and the profession.

We offer multiple concurrent sessions. You MUST SELECT which 1) breakout session(s) you will attend AND 2) the regular sessions for your registered day(s) during registration so we can ensure there is enough space to accommodate your choice and SO THAT YOU RECEIVE YOUR CE CERTIFICATE FOR ALL OF YOUR SESSIONS. IF YOU DO NOT SELECT ALL OF YOUR BREAKOUT AND REGULAR SESSIONS THEN YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ALL OF YOUR CE CERTIFICATES.

Complimentary lunch tickets will be included with every "Both Days," all day "Saturday,” and all day "Sunday" registration. We work with the caterers to ensure that each meal includes gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, and non-vegetarian options in order to adhere to most dietary needs. Alongside this, coffee and tea service will be provided during morning registration on both Saturday and Sunday. Throughout the conference, various exhibitors may sponsor snack and beverage tables.

The program manual and lecture notes will be available as:

  • A free digital download that will be emailed to registrants on December 2nd at 5PM
  • A flashdrive ($10) or printed booklet ($25) that can be purchased during registration and will be given to registrants when they check-in to the event on December 3rd. (Unfortunately, the flashdrive and printed booklet are unable to be shipped to webinar attendees.)

We recommend downloading materials PRIOR TO ATTENDING THE CONFERENCE as WiFi can be spotty in the lower level of the hotel.

This event offers up to 10 hours of Pharmacy/AOM-BIO CE and 2 hours of Ethics CE. Any CE obtained in December but not needed for license renewal in that year may be carried over to the next year's renewal (for NDs only). Pharmacy & Ethics CE not needed for those requirements may also be used as General CE.


Application pending for NDs. Application approved for Acupuncturists, and Pharmacists.

This activity has been submitted to the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine and the Oregon Board of Pharmacy for approval to award up to 10 hours of Pharmacy and up to 2 hours of Ethics CE.

This activity has been submitted to the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and is pending 10 NCCAOM PDA Points in AOM-BIO and 2 NCCAOM PDA Points in Ethics Core Competencies.

General Information:

Purpose of Activity:
Upon completion of this activity, the learner will combine prior knowledge of pharmaceutical drug prescribing with updates in research, relevant laws and non-drug options as may be applied in an interdisciplinary (naturopathic, conventional and multidisciplinary) framework.The learner will discover non-conventional treatment approaches to conditions to mitigate or prevent drug adverse reactions, and will be able to discuss pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches to treatment plans in a clinical setting, between professions, and across institutions.
