OANP Well Represented
at AANP’s Annual Conference
The event, held in Keystone, Colorado,
served as the ideal venue for connection, education and relaxation.
twenty Oregon naturopathic physicians joined OANP staff Laura Farr and Mary
Closson and Board member, Carrie Baldwin-Sayre, ND, at AANP’s annual conference,
"Walking Our Talk,” July 10 through 13 in the scenic resort community. The
event, which attracted 250 attendees, included CE lectures, herb
walks, member and committee meetings, receptions, boat races, a vendor area
with nearly 100 exhibitors, and an awards banquet.
of this year’s conference were:
Physician of the Year:
Dr. Denise Clark, President of the Colorado Association of Naturopathic
Doctors, accepting her award for Physician of the Year. Dr. Clark and a team of
CoAND members worked tirelessly to overcome long odds to make Colorado the 17th
state to enact licensure.
Oregon physician, Dr. Rick Marinelli, was honored posthumously with the
prestigious Lust Award established to recognize a naturopathic physician who
consistently and throughout his career has made an outstanding contribution
toward transforming healthcare, distinguished him/herself as a leader in the
profession, and has been dedicated to advancing the goals and ideals of the
naturopathic profession in a fundamental and lasting way.
recipient of the AANP Corporate Award was presented to Shallinder Sodhi,
President of Ayush Herbs, Inc. The Redmond, Washington based company produces
Ayurvedic herbal products such as vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. Ayush was
recognized for its exceptional leadership in delivering quality products and
services to naturopathic doctors and the public and because it has contributed
a body of products/services to naturopathic medicine which, when compared to
their peers, makes Ayush stand out above the rest.
ReLaunch of the Institute for Natural
conference served as the occasion to announce the re-launch of the INM.
As a tax-exempt, 501(c)(3) organization, the INM will lead fundraising efforts
that aim to transform health care in America by making naturopathic medicine
principles the foundation for the practice of medicine.Attendees at AANP’s
celebratory gala pledged $30,000 to support the INM.
Just for Fun - Boat Races
All the schools
participated in a rowdy relay race that included kayaks, stand-up paddle
boards, and pedal boats. The race pitted alumni of the schools in a grueling,
high-altitude battle of not only brawn, but wits as well. NCNM formally won the
race, with SCNM also claiming victory for having "touched beach” first but in
the wrong location. True to naturopathic medicine, there was no consensus among
the participants as to the best remedy for the difference of opinion!
Plan Now for Next Year:
AANP’s 2014 conference
and exposition, "Naturopathic Primary Care: The Future is Now,” will be held at
the Arizona Biltmore August 6 through 9.
