New CDC Guidelines for Prescribing Opioids The Lund Report & CCO Oregon
The Health Evidence Review Committee revised the deadline for getting Medicaid patients with back pain off of long-term narcotic therapies. Providers treating patients in Coordinated Care Organizations will need to put a comprehensive treatment plan in place by the end of this year for patients on opioids, and wean them off of the drugs by the end of 2017.
In the meantime, the CDC has released new recommendations for prescribing opioids, highlighting alternatives to opiate therapies for chronic pain such as exercise and cognitive behavioral therapy. Check out more from our friends at CCO Oregon.
