The Oregon Board of Pharmacy has adopted new rules for Dispensing Practitioner Drug Outlets (DPDOs). The rules are intended to describe the Board’s registration and compliance expectations for a practitioner’s facility that engages in dispensing certain FDA-approved human prescription drug therapies greater than a 72 hours supply or any medication refill. The facility-dispensing site must be registered as a drug outlet with the Board as a Dispensing Practitioner Drug Outlet (DPDO).

The rules include requirements and best practices common to all pharmacy drug outlets, related to registration and criteria for compliance in drug acquisition, storage, labeling and recordkeeping. The Dispensing Practitioner Drug Outlet (DPDO) rules became effective December 1, 2017.

The registration application for the DPDO license is available on the Board’s website for outlets that inquire about license requirements to review and apply. To check whether or not you are required to register as a DPDO please visit: http://www.oregon.gov/pharmacy/Imports/DPDO.pdf.

Please note: The $100 fee for this license will be waived until January 1, 2019.

Board compliance staff are available to answer any registration and exemption questions and can be reached at pharmacy.board@state.or.us.

In addition, Board staff has created an educational outreach PowerPoint presentation to help educate registrants on the compliance expectations for dispensing facilities and is available to speak at professional meetings, per request.
