Description

The October 2018 MedTalk features a change in presentation format. We will have 3 lectures back-to-back focusing on Oncology.

First lecture: "The Promise and Precaution of Therapeutic Fasting Alongside Chemotherapy in Patients with Breast Cancer” presented by Dave Allderdice, ND, FABNO.

Second Lecture: “The Role of Mushroom Polysaccharide Extracts in Breast Cancer” presented by Eliot W. Edwards, ND, FABNO.

Third Lecture: "Oncology Research Review: Clinically Relevant Studies from the Past Year" presented by Alex Speers ND, MS.


Speaker Information


Dr. Dave Allerdice

Dr. Allderdice did his naturopathic training locally at NUNM ('08) followed by 2 years of residency and one year on staff at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philadelphia, PA. He became board-certified in naturopathic oncology in 2011 and moved back to his native Portland to start private practice.

For the past 7 years, he's been committed to providing integrative cancer care to his patients and recently opened a cancer-dedicated holistic clinic, Sage Cancer Care, where he practices alongside a team of talented and specialized cancer care professionals.

Dr. Allderdice has previously sat on the board of the OncANP and continues to be active within the naturopathic oncology community. He also teaches the Integrative Oncology Research elective at the Helfgott Research Institute at NUNM.

Dr. Eliot Edwards

Eliot W. Edwards, ND, FABNO is a 2002 graduate from National College of Naturopathic Medicine where he earned his Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degree. His undergraduate degree was in physics and chemistry which he earned in 1990 from State University of New York College at Oneonta.

Dr. Edwards was in private practice in upstate New York from 2002-2009. In 2009 he joined the Naturopathic Medicine Department at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, in Zion, IL. At CTCA he worked along-side of medical oncologists offering naturopathic medicine to cancer patients receive conventional standard of care. In April 2013 he became a Fellow to the American Board of Naturopathic Oncologists (FABNO).

Dr. Edwards has held faculty appointments at National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM), Oregon College of Oriental Medicine (OCOM) and National University of Health Science (NUHS) and has lectured extensively to health care practitioners and community groups on naturopathic medicine and integrative cancer care.

Dr. Edwards sits on the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology, Board of Medical Examiners. He is a member of the Oregon Association of Naturopathic Physicians and serves on the PR committee. He is also a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians and was elected as a Board of Directors starting January 2019. He is a Past-President of the Illinois Association of Naturopathic Physicians and from 2010-2017 he headed up efforts to establish licensure for Naturopathic Physicians in IL.
Dr. Alex Speers

Alex Speers, ND, MS graduated from the National University of Natural Medicine in 2017 where he earned his doctorate degree in Naturopathic Medicine and a master’s degree in integrative medicine research. As part of his master’s program, he wrote his thesis on quality of life changes among elderly women with breast cancer.

Currently, he is completing a 2-year oncology-focused residency at Sage Cancer Care in Portland, OR under the mentorship of Dr. Dave Allderdice. At the end of his residency, he will sit for board certification to be a Fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology (FABNO).

He is a member of the Oncology Association of Naturopathic Physicians (OncANP), where he sits on the Research Committee. In addition, he is a member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP) and the state association of Oklahoma (OKANP).

2 general CEUs approved by the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine (OBNM).

Course Expiration
Please note that you must complete each OANP recorded continuing education course and pass the survey/exam within one year from the date of purchase. If you do not complete the course and pass the exam within one year, you will be required to re-purchase the course.
