Speaker Information

Dr. Greg Starley
My interest in General Surgery began when I was studying Biology in high school. The influence of a great biology teacher and the mentorship of a General Surgeon who allowed me to volunteer with him sparked an interest in the human body and surgery. That interest led to a degree in Zoology then on to a career in medicine. I dedicated the next 9 years to becoming a General Surgeon. Medical school took me to Missouri and the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. There, I learned the importance of the patient and that healing is not only a science, but incorporates the mind, body, and spirit. After medical school, I began my General Surgery Residency at a small community hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. For the next five years, I worked to learn the skills and art of surgery from many teachers in various subspecialties. While there, I served as the Chief Resident and Chief Surgical Resident which helped me learn valuable time management and people skills.

Dr. Starley is now the highest performing robotic surgeon in the state of Oregon and is one of the few robotic surgeons on the West Coast that is a proctoring provider in robotic surgery – fewer than 2% of surgeons nationwide achieve this status.

Dr. Amish Desai
Amish Desai, MD, FACC, is medical director of Cardiology at Legacy Health. He is board certified in cardiology and interventional cardiology, and joined Legacy in 2015 after working in Seattle since 2005. He has a special interest and expertise in emerging technologies and structural heart disease, the catheter-based treatment of valvular heart disease, and stroke prevention in patients with atrial fibrillation. He has participated in numerous clinical trials in interventional cardiology in the past 10 years. He believes in community outreach, education, and collaboration with other health care providers. He feels strongly about spending time with patients and their families to help them arrive at a sound health care decision. He enjoys cycling, skiing, tennis and soccer with his wife, 3 daughters and golden doodle, Ollie.
