Working in Primary Care and Practicing Classical Homeopathy

How are you currently using your ND?

I'm in clinical practice in the Portland area focused on Primary Care

What is unique about your clinic or the way you practice?
I practice classical homeopathy, which is unfortunately less common in our profession.
I also have a psychology and social work background so I naturally do a lot of mental health.

How is OANP valuable to you and your profession?
The OANP is the collective voice of our profession here in Oregon. It's a community, a resource, and a vehicle for change. NDs in Oregon have made amazing progress as a result of the work of the OANP, but beyond anything else I value it as a way for a small profession to organize.

I've been on the board of the OANP since I was a student. My involvement with OANP is an outlet for some of my other interests and skills that are outside of medicine. So my work for the organization is also personally fulfilling.

Why do you practice naturopathic medicine?
It was a very intuitive decision to me. It was a natural extension of my interests in natural health, people and activism.

Who is the most influential person to you on your naturopathic journey?
Probably my mother. She encourages me relentlessly but also has a lot of health issues that might have been different if this type of medicine had been available to her.

What professional accomplishment are you proud of?

I've recently had a handful of patients come in whom I hadn't seen in a few years. It's been nice to look back at their chart notes and see how I've grown in my practice, yet realize that I was able to help them even as a newer doctor so that they have now returned.

Do you have any words of wisdom for recent ND graduates?

Get marketing help unless you have experience with it. Talk to your colleagues. Ask a lot of questions.

What is your definition of "happiness"?

What would you sing at Karaoke night?
90's rap songs

If you had a warning label, what would yours say?
Warning: Mouth does not stay closed.
