Several NDs have been scheduling meetings with legislators in their districts - home and work districts! For those of you that want to help this effort, it’s crucial that you reach out to your legislators. They want to meet you, to listen, and to hear what issues you have that need to be addressed. This is also a good opportunity to educate the public on naturopathic medicine. If you are interested in helping with our grassroots effort, email firstname.lastname@example.org. I can help you set up a meeting with your legislator and provide talking points for your conversations.
OANP continues to meet with different legislators holding fundraisers. We use PAC (Political Action Fund) donations to help solidify those relationships. We’re having lots of good conversations, and are heartened by the fact that the majority of the legislators we meet with are aware of naturopathic medicine. Many of them use NDs as their PCPs, and most are aware of the issue regarding pay disparity.
Legislative Committee Work
The legislative committee has been solidifying the strategic plan for the next few months. This includes requesting testimonials, highlighting the reach and impact of NDs in the state through geo-mapping, and continuing to do outreach with legislators.
Upcoming Legislative Training at December Conference
We will be holding a legislative “bootcamp” as part of the Annual Meeting at the OANP conference this year. Open to active OANP members, this training will give a roadmap for what you as an individual can to do help support the profession. We will highlight the best methods for making an impact with your legislator, talking points, and how to speak on behalf of the profession. Are you interested? Do you have ideas for topics you would like to have at the training? email@example.com.
