Dr. Bridghid McMonagle, OANP board member, met with NUNM students to discuss successful business strategies, fielded questions from students regarding various topics, and discussed the importance of OANP involvement. The OANP continues to find ways to mentor students and create mentorship opportunities. Dr. McMonagle offered to meet with students for a happy hour to see if it might be helpful to them. Alexandra Volarich, class of 2020, organized a meeting with herself, Heidi Mass and Nicole Shusterman.
"To be honest, I was hesitant to add one more thing to my plate. Taking time out of my day to go to NUNM was a wonderful experience. Then meeting 3 motivated and driven ladies for happy hour reminded me of how it felt to be a student at times. It can feel overwhelming. The thought of likely starting a business and practicing medicine at the same time can be a bit much to take in. These students were great. They had wonderful questions and were very respectful of my time. I feel mentorship is very important and I would like to continue to brainstorm ways to help students be able to graduate knowing they can be successful! At happy hour we reviewed aging reports, EOB's, what some different insurance companies actually pay for different codes, basic overhead information, and some general recommendations. I'd happily go back to NUNM and share more or continue to try to create more mentorship options if students want this.
"In order to succeed, we must first believe that we can."
