How are you currently using your ND? What is your primary focus area of practice?
Siskiyou Vital Medicine is focused on direct primary care (retainer medical practice) and Regenerative Medicine. I am a Direct Primary Care Educator, DPC advocate, and business consultant.
My medical approach is rooted in Vitalism, a system of medicine that focuses on cure, using the body’s own innate ability to heal. I employ time tested natural therapies as well as the latest medical technology to develop sustainable health plans that empower my patients to take control of their health.
What is unique about your clinic or the way you practice?
My clinic is unique because it’s a Direct Primary Care Practice and my success as a physician and business owner is dependent upon the health of my patients. My patient/members pay a monthly membership to access Naturopathic medical care. This has removed the financial barriers that have traditionally prevented the common public from accessing high quality naturopathic care. My business model allows me to practice naturopathic medicine rooted in vitalism and has brought my business’ health in alignment with that of my members. I have the privilege of utilizing the full spectrum of my ND toolkit while integrating more regenerative modalities in my practice.
How is OANP valuable to you and/or your profession?
Being a part of OANP provides resources, collaboration and a strong voice in the Oregon Legislature.
Do you have a favorite patient experience?
My favorite patient experience is sharing the potential and healing power of naturopathic medicine. I love when patients realize they have a sustainable and attainable way forward on their path to wellness. Every interaction that leads to a patient leaving the clinic with a smile, with a feeling of hope and an overall sense of support is my favorite patient experience. I’m nourished by my service to each member of my community.
Why do you practice Naturopathic Medicine?
I choose to practice Naturopathic Medicine because as a ND I have the privilege of utilizing a practice rooted in Vitalism and augmented with modern advancements in medicine. The advantage of this time tested medicine combined with modern medicine tools offers a wide range of options for my patients and meets them where they are in their lives.
Who is the most influential person to you on your naturopathic journey?
My wife Sandra has had the most influence on my naturopathic journey. She inspired me to explore the ND profession and continues to facilitate and inspire my naturopathic practice.
What professional accomplishments are you most proud of?
I’m most proud to have created a business model that allows me to practice my style of medicine without the constraints of the medical system.
Do you have any words of wisdom for recent ND graduates?
I suggest ND graduates move away from current medical systems and business practices that are leading to physician burnout, pay discrepancies, and poorer health outcomes for our community. I would have ND graduates utilize the DPC model so that they can realize financial freedom while enlivening their patients and opening the ND profession to the general public.
What is your idea of fun?
I enjoy spending time with my family, riding motorcycles, hiking, and generally being outdoors.
