How are you currently using your ND? What is your primary focus area of practice?
As a licensed naturopathic physician in Portland, Oregon, who accepts most forms of insurance, and as owner and operator of Portland Clinic of Natural Health in the Hawthorne district. Primary focus: family care, chronic disease, men’s health, regenerative medicine.
I am also a published writer and Education Coordinator for Business Networking International
My book “The Serpent & The Butterfly, the Seven Laws of Healing” is scheduled to release on April, 7.
What is unique about your clinic or the way you practice?
The Carroll Food Intolerance Method, hair mineral testing, constitutional hydrotherapy, naturopathic manipulative technique, homeopathy, and regenerative medicine.
How is OANP valuable to you and your profession?
OANP is comprised of a powerful community of NDs and leaders. OANP has a rich history dedicated to furthering and promoting, as well as protecting, the profession and broadening the scope of practice for naturopathic doctors.
Do you have a favorite patient experience?
My favorite patient experience is more general. I love educating my patients that they can trust in their own bodies’ innate ability to heal. I also love to educate them on why we do what we do. I like to use a whiteboard with my patients and explain the underlying causes of potential imbalance in the body.
Why do you practice naturopathic medicine?
In order to be able to practice naturopathic medicine as a licensed naturopathic doctor. My life purpose is to elevate the health and well-being of all humanity.
Who is the most influential person to you on your naturopathic journey?
My mom and dad. My mom ran a hospital ward as a charge nurse growing up. My parents taught me to cook and bake at an early age. And I lived off the grid without running water or electricity in the great Pacific Northwest rainforest, from the age of 7 to 20. It was basically like Disney’s The Swiss Family Robinson meets Laura Engles Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie, with a little bit of Harrison Ford’s Mosquito Coast.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
Becoming a naturopathic doctor. Starting my own clinic, Portland Clinic of Natural Health. Writing my first book, set to be released on April 7, 2020, which is World Health Day.
Do you have any words of wisdom for recent ND graduates?
Find one thing that can become your chief offering and make it your own, such as a certain modality, test, lab, or approach.
What is your definition of “happiness”?
A happy, healthy family
What would you sing at Karaoke night?
A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke
Who is your favorite author?
If you had a warning label, what would yours say?
“Black box warning: Herxheimer reaction, healing crisis, placebo effect, or cure.”
