Legislative Committee Updates

Posted by: Dr. Jeff Clark | Legislative Committee
The legislative committee has been hard at work on issues that have come up as a result of the pandemic. Here are our updates:
We sent over 75 patient and ND letters to the Department of Consumer and Business Services (DCBS) regarding the telemedicine insurance end dates that have already passed, or are looming. We received a response that most insurance companies have extended their telemedicine offerings through December 31st, and we are following up on the outliers with DCBS. Thank you to all of you who sent us your personal and patient letters – it made an impact!
DOJ/FDA Issue Around COVID Treatment Claims:
We are working on the DOJ/FDA COVID supplement and treatment recommendation issue. I’ve reached out to the OANP law firm, since the state/DOJ is looking to expand this temporary rule in the fall. This is a HUGE issue, and we have reached out to other state associations and supplement companies to help us with this fight. If you have received a letter from the FDA or DOJ, please contact Beth Martin at email@example.com. We are here to help you.
Special Legislative Session:
The Oregon Special Session wrapped last Friday, and by our account some good work was done, and there is more that needs to happen come January. The legislature moved through the 3-day session and pushing through with bipartisan rule suspension and had a kind tenor between them all. There is a possibility of a 2nd special later in the summer where they will tackle the state budget issues.

Behavioral Health Task Force:
Representative Rachel Prusak has put together a behavior health task force to talk about patient care. Dr. Amanda Watters is representing OANP on this committee, and hopefully we will make some strides on access and parity. Thank you Dr. Watters!
We have not forgotten pay parity! We will start gearing up for the 2021 session in the next month or so. If you have the means, please consider donating to the OANP PAC, or renewing your membership.
